What Summily does
Summily is a Chrome extension that takes notes on Google Meet calls. It reads the live captions shown in Meet, and when someone shares their screen, it may capture images of the shared slides. From this it creates summaries, action items, transcripts, and AI-drafted documents on request.
What data is collected and where it is stored
- Meeting content: captions (names as shown in Meet, and what was said), meeting titles, and slide screenshots. This is stored only in your browser, using Chrome's local storage. We do not operate a server that receives it.
- Settings: your preferences, and the Gemini API key you enter, stored only in your browser.
When data leaves your browser
To write notes and run AI tasks, Summily sends meeting text and, if you have it enabled, slide images to Google's Gemini service (generativelanguage.googleapis.com), using the API key you provided. Google's own terms and privacy policy apply to that service. Summily does not send your data anywhere else.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or share your data with third parties.
- We do not use your data for advertising, or for creditworthiness.
- We do not have accounts, so there is nothing to sign up for.
Permissions and why they are needed
- storage and unlimitedStorage: keep your notes, transcripts and slide images on your device.
- alarms: finish meetings that ended without the tab closing properly.
- tabs: find the open Meet tab and open your notes page.
- scripting: reattach the note-taking script to Meet tabs open during an update.
- Access to meet.google.com: read captions and lobby controls.
Your choices
You can delete any meeting, export your notes, or delete all notes from the Settings page. Uninstalling Summily removes everything it stored.
Children
Summily is not directed at children under 13.
